Fig and Bloom is a growing Australian ecommerce and retail brand selling premium flowers, plants, and gifts. When I first started working with them, they were hitting the ceiling on what their small team could handle. Customer support emails were piling up with response times stretching past 24 hours. Order issues like tracking updates, returns, and exchange requests were handled manually one by one. Staff scheduling across multiple locations was a weekly headache managed through spreadsheets and group chats. Reporting was manual. Inventory checks were manual. Almost everything that kept the business running day to day required someone to stop what they were doing and handle it by hand.

The Approach
How I solved it
This was never a one time project. I became Fig and Bloom's long term tech partner. Over three years, I built 12 different apps and systems that they use every single day. The work started with the most painful problem (customer support drowning the team) and expanded as we found more opportunities to remove manual work from their operations.
The centerpiece is a Slack based AI agent built in about three months that now runs the core of their back office. It connects to Shopify for order data, Deputy for staff scheduling, shipping carriers for delivery tracking, and their support channels for customer communication. The team interacts with it naturally in Slack as part of their daily workflow. It is not a tool they log into separately. It is woven into how they already work.
Beyond the AI agent, I built custom apps for inventory management, order routing, automated reporting dashboards, customer notification systems, return processing workflows, and internal tools that their team relies on every day. Each one was designed to solve a specific operational bottleneck, and together they automated roughly 70% of the manual work that used to consume the team's time.
The partnership keeps going because the business keeps growing and new challenges keep coming up. That is the difference between hiring someone to build a project and having a tech partner who knows your business inside and out.
AI Agent Build (First 3 Months)
Built the core Slack AI agent from scratch with full Shopify integration. Automated customer support (order lookups, tracking updates, returns, exchanges), connected to Deputy for scheduling, and wired up shipping carrier APIs. The agent handled 85% of support volume from day one.
Operations Automation (Year 1)
Built five additional apps and tools: automated order routing, inventory alert system, return processing workflow, customer notification engine, and a staff availability tracker. Each one replaced a manual process the team was doing daily.
Intelligence and Reporting (Year 2)
Built automated daily and weekly reporting via Slack and custom dashboards. Sales performance, support metrics, inventory warnings, shipping delays, and team utilization. Gave the owners full visibility without anyone having to compile a single spreadsheet.
