Meta tag checker and SERP preview

The title and description are the first thing a searcher reads, and the social tags decide what a shared link looks like. I built this checker to read those tags from a live page, flag what is missing or conflicting, and show a preview of the search result and the link card so you can judge them as a reader would.

Meta tags are one part of the full AEO audit of your site.

The check runs on app.jahanzaib.ai, my free tools app, and opens there.

This check is free and needs no account: you get every tag and both previews for the page you enter. A free account, which you open with a code sent to your email and no password, keeps your past checks and gives you more runs.

Coverage

What it checks

  • Title

Present, one only, and not the same text as the site name alone. The preview shows where a long title is likely to be cut off.

  • Meta description

Present and specific to the page. Search engines often write their own snippet, but a clear description is the text they start from.

  • Canonical

One canonical tag with a full address, pointing to the page itself or to the version you want indexed. It flags a missing, relative or duplicated canonical.

  • Robots meta tag

Flags noindex and nofollow, which are easy to leave behind after a launch and quietly keep a page out of search.

  • Open Graph and Twitter card

Reads og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url and og:type plus the twitter:card tags, and checks that the image address is absolute and loads.

  • Viewport and language

Checks for a viewport tag, which mobile search depends on, and a lang attribute on the page, which tells machines which language the text is in.

Method

How it works

  1. 1

    Enter a page

Any public page on your site. The check opens on my free tools app.

  2. 2

The app reads the head of the page

It fetches the HTML the server sends, without running JavaScript, so you see the tags a crawler sees. Tags added later by a script do not count.

  3. 3

You get the tags and two previews

Every tag with a status and a fix, a search result preview and a link card preview. If the page fails to load, you see the error and no preview.

Example

What the result looks like

An illustration of the layout with sample wording on an example domain. It is not a result for any real page.

  • Search result preview

    For information

The title, address and description laid out the way a search result shows them.

Handmade oak desks built to order | shop.example. Delivered flat with the tools to put it together.

  • Title and description

    Needs a fix

The raw tags and anything that conflicts.

The page has two title tags. Search engines use one of them and you cannot tell which. Keep one.

  • Canonical and robots

    Passed

The canonical address and any robots directives.

The canonical points to the page itself and there is no noindex directive.

  • Link card preview

    Needs a fix

How the page could look when shared, from its Open Graph and Twitter card tags.

og:image uses a relative path, so most link previews show no image. Use the full https address.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the preview exactly what Google will show?

No, it is an approximation. Google cuts titles and descriptions by display width rather than a fixed count of characters, and it often rewrites both from the page text. The preview shows what your tags give it to work with.

Why does it ignore tags my JavaScript adds?

Because many crawlers, including most AI crawlers, read only the HTML the server sends. If a tag appears only after a script runs, those crawlers never see it.

How long should a title or description be?

Long enough to say what the page is, short enough not to be cut mid thought. The preview shows where a cut is likely, which is a better guide than a character count.

Do I need Open Graph tags?

They decide the title, description and image of your page when someone shares it in a chat app or on social media. Without them, each app guesses from the page, often badly.

Do I need an account?

No. Every tag and both previews are free without an account. A free account, which you open with a code sent to your email and no password, keeps your past checks and gives you more runs.
