n8n consultant, UK: n8n automation that respects UK GDPR on hours that suit your morning

I design and build n8n workflows for UK companies, with hosting in London when the data should stay here, and a clear answer on how remote access from Pakistan fits your data processing agreement.

  • Quoted in pounds, fixed price
  • London region hosting
  • Same working day overlap

Working hours

The easiest overlap of any market I serve

Pakistan runs on PKT (UTC+5) all year. The UK is four hours behind in British Summer Time and five behind in winter, so your whole morning lands in my working afternoon.

Where you areYour 9am is myMy 9am is your
London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol1pm PKT, 2pm in winter5am, 4am in winter
Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast1pm PKT, 2pm in winter5am, 4am in winter
  • Live working sessions in your morning, without anyone staying up late.
  • A fault you report before lunch reaches me in my afternoon, so it can be looked at the same day.
  • Go live calls and handover walkthroughs sit at 10am or 11am your time.

Privacy and hosting

UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, in practice

Any workflow that moves personal data is processing under UK GDPR. These are the points that change how I build one for a UK controller.

  • Hosting and transfers

    n8n Cloud stores data in Frankfurt. The UK treats the EEA as adequate, so that is a lawful transfer, but some clients still want everything onshore. Self hosting in the AWS London region keeps workflows, credentials and execution logs in the UK.

  • Remote access from Pakistan

    Pakistan has no UK adequacy regulation. If I need to see live personal data to debug, that access can count as a restricted transfer, so it goes into your agreement with me using the IDTA or the UK Addendum. Most of the time I work from test data and never need it.

  • DPIAs and retention

    High risk processing, such as profiling customers or automated decisions about people, needs a data protection impact assessment. I supply the technical description for it, and set execution retention in n8n to match the retention period in your record of processing.

Defaults I start from for a UK self hosted instance. Retention is set to your own policy.
# n8n on AWS London (eu-west-2)
GENERIC_TIMEZONE=Europe/London
DB_TYPE=postgresdb
DB_POSTGRESDB_HOST=<RDS endpoint in eu-west-2>
N8N_ENCRYPTION_KEY=<from AWS Secrets Manager>
EXECUTIONS_DATA_PRUNE=true
# hours: 14 days of run history
EXECUTIONS_DATA_MAX_AGE=336
EXECUTIONS_DATA_SAVE_ON_SUCCESS=none
# no telemetry leaves the server
N8N_DIAGNOSTICS_ENABLED=false

Typical rates in this market

What n8n contractors charge in the UK

IT Jobs Watch tracks the day rates in UK contract adverts. n8n is still a small niche there, so the sample is thin, but it is the only public UK figure tied to n8n itself.

These are what the market pays contractors, not my rate. I quote a fixed price in pounds for an agreed scope after a short call, so there is no day count to watch.

The local stack

UK tools I wire n8n into

Accounting and payments look different here. These are the systems UK builds touch most.

  • Xero

    Invoices, bills, bank feeds and reconciliation

  • Sage and FreeAgent

    Bookkeeping for small firms and sole traders

  • HMRC Making Tax Digital

    Records kept in a shape that MTD software accepts

  • GoCardless

    Direct Debit mandates and failed collection follow up

  • Microsoft 365

    Outlook, SharePoint and Teams approvals

  • HubSpot and Pipedrive

    Lead capture and pipeline updates

City by city

London, Manchester and Edinburgh

I work remotely and have no UK office. The industries and their rules differ by city, and that is what changes the build.

  • London

    Fintech, agencies and professional services. FCA regulated firms need audit trails on anything that touches client money or communications, so every workflow logs who approved what and when.

  • Manchester

    Ecommerce brands and digital agencies. Typical builds join Shopify or WooCommerce orders to Xero, warehouse emails and returns, where a missed order is a refund.

  • Edinburgh

    Financial services and asset managers, plus a strong university and tech scene. Reporting pipelines and document intake are the common asks, often with a requirement that data stays in the UK.

How a build runs

A UK build, from DPIA to go live

Compliance comes first in the order, because it decides where the workflows can run.

  1. Discovery

    Process and data map

    You walk me through the process in your morning, and I note every field of personal data each step reads or writes.

    You get: A data map you can drop into your record of processing.

  2. Paperwork

    Agreement and hosting decision

    A data processing agreement with me, the transfer mechanism if live data access is needed, and the choice between n8n Cloud and London hosting.

    You get: Signed terms and a hosting plan before any personal data moves.

  3. Build

    Built and tested in your instance

    Test data first, then a supervised run on real records with you watching the executions.

    You get: Workflows with error handling and alerts to your team.

  4. Handover

    Walkthrough and retention check

    A recorded handover and a last check that retention, pruning and access match what the DPIA says.

    You get: Documentation, workflow JSON in your repo, and the settings to prove it.

Fit check

A good match for UK teams when

A good fit when

  • You want personal data to stay in the UK, or at least to know exactly where it goes.
  • Your finance stack runs on Xero, Sage or FreeAgent and the month end is still manual.
  • You prefer a fixed price in pounds to an open ended day rate.
  • Live calls in your morning suit you better than late evenings.

Not the right call when

  • Your security policy bars any contractor based outside the UK from your systems.
  • You need IR35 assessed day rate contracting through an agency.
  • You need someone in the office for workshops.

Questions

What people ask before a build starts

n8n Cloud stores data in Frankfurt, and the UK recognises the EEA as adequate, so using it can be lawful. Compliance is still your job as controller: a processing agreement with n8n, a lawful basis, and retention you can justify. Self hosting in London removes the transfer question entirely.
