AI citation readiness checker

When ChatGPT, Perplexity or Copilot quote a page, they lift a passage and credit the source. I built this check to read one page the way those systems do and tell you what stands between your content and a clean quote: hidden text, vague headings, no date, no author, markup that disagrees with the page.

Want to see whether AI assistants already cite you? I compared the options in my guide to tracking AI search visibility.

Checking a whole site rather than one page? Run the AEO audit instead.

The check runs on app.jahanzaib.ai, my free tools app, and opens there.

The quick check is free and needs no account: a score and the top findings for the page. The full report needs a free account, which you open with a code sent to your email and no password. It shows every check with what the app found and how to fix it, and keeps your past runs.

Coverage

What it checks

  • Text without JavaScript

Most AI crawlers read the HTML your server sends and do not run scripts. The check measures how much of the main text is in that raw HTML.

  • A summary near the top

Looks for a plain statement of what the page covers in its opening paragraphs, the part a reader and a machine meet first. Your own words, in your own format.

  • Headings that describe their section

Checks for a single H1 and an orderly outline below it, and flags headings that say nothing about what follows, such as a lone "Overview".

  • Specific facts

Flags passages that make claims with no figure, name or source attached. A quotable sentence usually carries something a reader can check.

  • Dates and author

Looks for a visible published or updated date and a named author, in the page text and in the markup, and checks that the two agree.

  • Schema and alt text

Checks that the page carries structured data for what it is, such as an Article with its author and dates, and that images have alt text that describes them.

Method

How it works

  1. 1

    Enter one page

Pick the page you most want quoted, such as a guide or a product page. The check opens on my free tools app.

  2. 2

The app reads the raw HTML

It fetches the page from a public address the way a crawler does, without running JavaScript, and parses the text, headings, dates, author and markup.

  3. 3

    Each check gets a status

You see what the app found on the page, why it matters and what to change. If the page fails to load, you see the error and no score.

  4. 4

    Edit, then check again

Make the changes that fit your page and your readers, then run the check again. A free account keeps your earlier runs.

Example

What the report sections look like

An illustration of the layout with sample wording. It is not a result for any real page.

  • Text without JavaScript

    Passed

The share of the main text present in the HTML before any script runs.

The article text is in the raw HTML, so a crawler that skips scripts reads the whole page.

  • Dates and author

    Needs a fix

The dates and author in the visible page and in the structured data, side by side.

The page shows an updated date, but the Article markup has only the original published date. Add dateModified so the two match.

  • Headings

    Needs a fix

The heading outline of the page, level by level.

The page has two H1 headings. Keep one for the title and make the other an H2.

  • Image alt text

    For information

Each image on the page with its alt text, or a note that it has none.

A chart near the top has no alt text. Describe what the chart shows in a short sentence.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Should I rewrite my page as questions and answers?

No. This check never asks you to restructure a page into questions and answers, and I do not recommend it. Write for the people reading the page. The check looks at whether a machine can read what is already there: the text, the headings, the facts, the date and the author.

Will fixing these get my page cited?

No tool can promise a citation. Answer engines choose sources on relevance and trust as well as readability. This check removes the reasons a well written page gets skipped, such as text hidden behind JavaScript or a missing author.

Why does a date matter to an AI assistant?

Many questions people ask an assistant have an answer that changes over time. A clear published or updated date helps a system judge whether your page is current, and helps a reader trust the quote.

Does it check my whole site?

No, one page per run. For a site wide check of crawler access, indexability, sitemap and speed, use the AEO audit.

Do I need an account?

No. The quick check with a score and the top findings is free without an account. The full report with every check needs a free account, which you open with a code sent to your email. There is no password.

Rather hand it over?

I can find the fixes and ship them for you

I run SEO and answer engine optimization as one managed program: the pages, the technical fixes, the markup and the mentions that AI assistants read. You get a plain monthly report on what changed.
