The short answer
Share of voice, in AEO, is the percentage of relevant AI answers or citations in which your brand appears compared with competitors across a defined set of questions. It turns visibility into a number you can track.

Why Share of Voice matters
A single answer proves little. The share across many questions shows the trend and how you stack up against rivals.
How to measure or use it
Fix a question panel, test it each month in each assistant, count appearances per brand and divide by the total. Keep the panel the same so months can be compared.
How I handle it
I fix the panel in month one and do not change it, so the number means the same thing in month six.

Share of Voice questions
How many questions should the panel have?
Enough to cover your real buying topics. A few dozen is a sensible start, and three is too few to mean anything.
Is a higher share always better?
Only if the answers describe you accurately. A high share of wrong answers helps nobody.
