The short answer
A brand mention is any reference to your brand name, product or domain on another page, whether or not it links to you. AI assistants read mentions as evidence about who you are and how you are regarded.

Why Brand Mention matters
Assistants build their picture of a brand from what other sources say about it, not only from its own site. Consistent, accurate mentions on trusted pages raise the chance of being named.
How to measure or use it
Track new and existing mentions by source type, and check whether the sources that mention your competitors also mention you.
How I handle it
I treat earning mentions as slow, honest work: reviews, directories, communities and partner pages. I do not buy links or reviews.

Brand Mention questions
Do unlinked mentions help?
They can. Assistants read page text, so a mention can be read and used without a link.
How do I get more mentions?
Be useful where your buyers already ask questions, and give reviewers and partners something accurate to say.
